In pain, I breathe

It sits there
As I close my eyes
Trying to forget...

In pain I breathe...

No birds, no mountains
No beauty, I like
It is all I remember
For the only thing with hope
Is pain, much higher
To look down and smile
With despair and grief
In pain, I breathe

It is also a learning
About the nature of Self
What a way to be reminded
This existence, a gift
To be honoured and cared
For it is only a few
In pain, I've grown

I thank god for the enlightenment
For the gift I received
I know it is difficult
To be aware and let go
All at the same time
But this awareness soothes pain
Creating a peaceful co-existence
As a part, a belonging
For it is my pain,
I breathe...
